Nationals add Lester to rotation
Lefthander Jon Lester and the Washington Nationals have an agreement in principle in place for a one-year contract, pending the successful completion of a physical exam.
Lester, 37, will be heading into his 16th season in 2021. He has a 193-111 career record after going 3-3 with a 5.16 ERA in the last of his six seasons with the Cubs in 2020.

The San Diego Padres are adding another pitcher to their rotation, acquiring righthander Joe Musgrove in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Pirates, who acquired Musgrove from the Astros in a trade that included Gerrit Cole in 2018, will get a number of prospects in return, including well-regarded outfielder Hudson Head. The trade was part of a three-team deal, with the New York Mets acquiring lefthander Joey Lucchesi from San Diego.
The Mets reportedly sent catcher-outfield prospect Endy Rodriguez to the Pirates.
• New York Mets general manager Jared Porter sent more than 60 unsolicited text messages, including one of a naked penis, to a female baseball reporter in 2016, ESPN reported.
The Mets, in a statement by Sandy Alderson, the team’s president, announced they would review the matter. The Chicago Cubs, who were Porter’s employers at the time of the incident, said they will investigate the issue as well.
