UH-Cincinnati game off on Saturday

- Joseph Duarte

Houston coach Kelvin Sampson said Saturday’s home game against Cincinnati is likely to be postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Bearcats program.

Earlier Tuesday, the American Athletic Conference announced Cincinnati’s game at Temple, scheduled for Wednesday, had been postponed.

“We’re working on alternative solutions,” Sampson said.

One option would be for the No. 8 Cougars to play at Temple on Saturday. Sampson said he has spoken to four different schools about “different scenarios” in the event UH needs a game.

UH beat Temple 76-50 on Dec. 22. The two teams are scheduled to meet in Philadelphia on Feb.10.

“I feel good we’re going to play another conference opponent Saturday,” Sampson said.

A date has been agreed upon for the rescheduled game at South Florida that was postponed on Jan. 14. Sampson did not provide an exact date but said it would give the Cougars three straight road games. There are two such stretches left on the schedule, both in February.

"It's like musical chairs and moving parts and watching it all in 3-D," Sampson said of trying to find dates to play games.

If the Cincinnati game is postponed that would mark the sixth game impacted by COVID-19 this season.
