Teen wounded in shooting at vigil for teen

- From staff and wire reports

A teen was shot Tuesday night during a vigil for a 16-year-old boy killed Monday afternoon at the same Sunnyside apartment complex, police said.

People were gathered around 9 p.m. near Jarmese and Coffee for the peaceful vigil when a female fired a pistol into the air for an unknown reason, said Lt. Larry Crowson of the Houston Police Department.

A second shooter, who had been displaying a firearm earlier in the night, began shooting into the crowd and the female returned fire, Crowson said.

In the exchange of gunfire, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the back. He was taken to a hospital where he is expected to survive.

The suspected female shooter was taken into custody, but the other assailant ran from the scene.
