Treemont says ‘bring on the new year!’
Aren’t you ready for 2021? Treemont Retirement Community and Health Care Center, like many senior communities, were all jolted into new territory last March when the COVID-19 virus raged through Houston and upended our normal routines. Executive director Rodney Brooks and Health Care Center administrator Cynthia Lamison acted swiftly to modify the dining procedures and social distance the activities.
The HCC Activity director Jeanette Mitchell, a licensed beautician, started giving haircuts to residents so they “didn’t look like 1960s hippies.” Life changed, but the care and love for Treemont’s residents remained steadfast.
“There is so much hope on the horizon with our vaccine scheduled for January 11,” Lamison said. “We are fortunate our nursing residents have remained safe through the pandemic. This cannot come soon enough.” CVS will administer the Pfizer vaccine to Treemont nursing/ rehab and assisted living residents and staff who are in Tier 1 priority category.
On the independent living side, residents who enjoyed the social interaction at meals, three times daily, with their neighbors adjusted to meal deliveries in their apartments. Treemont now has two sittings each for lunch and dinner to keep everyone as safe as possible.
“It is super exciting to have opened up the Treemont dining room after Thanksgiving,” Brooks said.
“We don’t yet have a date yet to vaccinate our residents, but hope it will be by end of January. This will be a game changer so we can start a return to our normal, fun routine that includes Big Band dances and backyard barbecues, among other activities,” Brooks said. Treemont is defined by how it responds to adversity and of the way team members, residents and families have responded to the pandemic. There is a lot of excitement for what 2021 will bring.
