Troy Lynn Skillern passed away peacefully at his home on January 23, 2021 after a lengthy illness. He was born in the small town of Troup, Texas on May 31, 1933 as a twin. He graduated from New Summerfiel­d High School. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1955. He worked for Reed Tool Company for 43 years. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patti Lynn in 1975 at the age of 18. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Dean, from Lovelady, Texas, son Assistant Chief Michael Lynn Skillern of the Houston Police Department and his wife, Kristi Parks Skillern, of The Woodlands, Texas, three grand-daughters; Sarah Lynn Stewart and her husband, Kyle Stewart from Conroe, Texas, Jenna Lynn Skillern from Humble, Texas and Kathryn Myers from Richardson, Texas. He was also blessed with four greatgrand­children--Channing Troy Hendrix, Autumn Marie Hendrix, Ashlynn Stewart and Rustyn Stewart. He is also survived by his twin brother, Roy Glenn Skillern from Katy, Texas; and former daughter-in-law Sgt. Rebecca Skillern with the Houston Police Department from Humble, Texas, numerous sisters-in-law; brothersin-laws and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Leo Skillern from Kentucky and two sisters, Ethlene Matteson and Joyce Wilson. An avid outdoorsma­n, you could find him cutting grass, clearing land or just riding around on the tractor. Troy loved being outdoors, and he was always building or working on something on his land in Diboll, Texas. Graveside services will be held at Antioch Cemetery, Lovelady, Texas on January 27, 2021 for immediate family members. Honorary pallbearer­s are Roy Skillern, Jerry Dominy and Bobby Rice of Houston, Texas, Dewayne Durham and Johnny Lowe from Corrigan, Texas. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
