HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Boys Ronald Holmes,
Northside
Notable: Also a top-tier quarterback, Holmes is on a tear on the basketball court, too. He scored 27 points in a 70-55 victory over Waltrip and 25 points in an 80-49 victory over Wisdom. That comes after a 31-point, 13-rebound performance against Houston Sterling and a 30point, 16-rebound output against Madison earlier this month.
What coach Bryan Shelton said: “Not only is he putting the ball in the basket, leading us in rebounding and also taking care of point guard duties for us, he’s also doing a great job emotionally in having us in a business-like manner. No matter who we play, he makes sure the rest of his guys are ready to play.”
Other nominees
Joshua Fanuiel, Elkins: Fanuiel scored 20 points with five rebounds and three steals in a 59-46 victory over George Ranch. Elkins enters the week 13-1 and is ranked seventh in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Class 6A rankings.
