King’s promotion an NFL milestone

The Washington Football Team promoted Jennifer King to assistant running backs coach Tuesday, making her the first Black female assistant position coach in the NFL.

King is the second woman in league history to be an assistant position coach after Tampa Bay assistant defensive line coach Lori Locust. King spent the 2020 season as a full-year coaching intern under head coach Ron Rivera.

In other news:

• All-Pro quarterbac­k Aaron Rodgers said Tuesday, “I don’t think there’s any reason why I wouldn’t be back” with the Green Bay Packers next season. But he added his future isn’t necessaril­y in his control.

Rodgers was clarifying remarks he made Sunday after the Packers’ 31-26 NFC title game loss to Tampa Bay. Rodgers said after the game “there’s a lot of guys’ futures that are uncertain, myself included.”

• Former Kansas City

Chiefs offensive lineman and Pro Football Hall of Famer Will Shields, who also won the Outland Trophy while at Nebraska, and Virginia Union athletic director Joe Taylor, one of the winningest coaches in HBCU history, headline five new College Football Playoff selection committee members named Tuesday.

Athletic directors Mitch Barnhart (Kentucky), Boo Corrigan (N.C. State) and Chris Del Conte (Texas) join Shields and Taylor in beginning their three-year terms this spring on the 13-member committee.

• Running back Keaontay Ingram is transferri­ng from Texas to USC. Ingram rushed for 1,811 yards over the past three seasons with the Longhorns.

• Notre Dame graduate transfer defensive lineman Ovie Oghoufo has pledged to finish his career at Texas.

• Houston wide receiver Keith Corbin will graduate transfer and play his final season at Jackson State, the FCS program coached by Deion Sanders.
