Mother, man arrested in death of 2-year-old boy

A mother and her boyfriend were arrested Wednesday in the beating death of 2-year-old Tevin Jefferson, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The mother, Darrielle Williams, and boyfriend, Johvonte Johnson, each face a charge of injury to a child with seriously bodily injury. The charge could be upgraded to murder, pending an autopsy, authorities said.

The child died shortly after arriving Tuesday afternoon at Houston Northwest Hospital. The boy suffered obvious trauma to the head, the sheriff ’s office said.

Investigators later interviewed Johnson, who acknowledged beating the child, causing him to fall and hit his head, authorities said.
