Plan would turn old hospital into seniors’ homes

- From staff and wire reports

Almost three years after the city of Conroe shuttered the dilapidated former Montgomery County Hospital, a developer is proposing new life for the structure as apartments for budgetstrapped seniors.

Overland Property Group is planning the renovation of the 57,000square-foot building.

In June 2018, building owners Shawn and Shannon Nelson were issued more than 700 fire code violations and 170 building code violations after a fire at the building the previous month.

Overland President and CEO Brett Johnson said at a City Council workshop Wednesday that he was aware of the building’s history and current condition. He presented a plan to renovate the building into one- and two-bedroom apartments for qualified seniors.
