Rice-North Texas series moved

Just hours before the Rice men’s basketball team was set to host North Texas on Thursday at Tudor Fieldhouse, the team announced the home-and-home series will be postponed by a day “out of an abundance of caution.”

The Owls and the Mean Green will now play at 2 p.m. Friday at Rice and 3 p.m. Sunday at North Texas. Thursday’s game was set to be closed to the public because of Rice University’s COVID-19 mitigation policies, which will not change with the move.

The announcement comes just three days after the women’s basketball series against North Texas was postponed because of COVID-19-related concerns.

The Owls enter the weekend series 4-4 in Conference USA and 10-6 overall. They’ve lost three straight, including a two-game sweep last weekend by UAB, dropping them to fourth in the Western division. The Mean Green have not played since Jan. 16 but sit in second in the division with a 3-1 C-USA record.

Ashley Owusu each scored 20 points and the host Terrapins routed the Spartans.
