On the right track
Regarding “Local officials restructure approach in vaccine effort,” (A1, Jan. 26): Kudos to Harris County, and to Galveston County a day later, for establishing the new vaccine waiting list, together with randomized name selection within the groups. This is exactly what all health organizations across the country should have been doing from the start.
We all need to know that we are “on the list,” and not just left adrift on the
ocean with no support. It is also a fair deal that how fast your computer/browser/internet happens to be no longer matters, thanks to that randomized name selection.
It’s too bad that the Harris County website didn’t work, but at least the phone bank worked, eventually. I got through after 90 minutes on hold. Then the next day Galveston County opened their new registration website, and I was able to get registered online within a minute or two. Wow!
Then, since I’m in group 1B, I got the email the very next day from Galveston saying I could go ahead and sign up for a vaccination appointment. Made my day! I think these two counties are now on the right track.
