Azalea Trail changes to an every-other-year format.

The River Oaks Garden Club is shifting its annual Azalea Trail Home and Garden Tour to an every-other-year format, so pencil the next event on your calendar for March 4-6, 2022.

The 2020 event got in just under the wire in early March, before a countywide shutdown made spring events impossible. Garden Club members — the event is 100 percent planned and staffed by volunteers — have opted to now host the event every two years instead of keeping it an annual event.

The Garden Club was founded in 1927 and hosted its first “Garden Pilgrimage” in 1935, and the 2020 event was the 85th in the city. The tour usually includes four private homes as well as Rienzi and the Bayou Bend house museum and its gardens. Educational events are always included, with experts on hand to answer questions about tree, plant and flower gardening.

?? Rick Gardner ?? Bayou Bend is a popular stop on the Azalea Trail Home and Garden Tour. The event is shifting to an every-other-year format, so the next one won’t be until March 2022.
