People behind the bandage

-

Thanks to all

Regarding “City plans website to schedule 2nd shots,” (A3, Feb. 2): At last — I looked down at my arm and there was a small bandage. My first COVID-19 vaccine!

Thank you to all the researchers who developed the vaccines so quickly, to all those who manufactured the vaccines, to all those who worked to administer the vaccines.

But also a big thank you to all those behind the scenes: that little bandage symbolizes a lot of people. Someone had to invent the adhesive; someone had to make the adhesive. Someone had to grow the cotton; someone else spin the thread to make the gauze for the bandage. Someone had to package the bandage; someone had to move and ship the bandage to the site of my injection. Another someone had to keep all the many kinds of records for just that little bandage.

Someone had to build the buildings for the factories; someone had to sweep and clean. Yes, many “someones” were involved. Each and every someone was essential for my little bandage.

I am grateful for our complex society that makes a little bandage. Thank you again — CEO, truck driver, data entry clerk, trash collector, inventor — the list is endless.
