Animal welfare
Regarding “Charges are dropped in Iowa hog case,” (B5, Jan. 30): I know that the ability to maximize profits is one of the things that make our country great, but it’s still hard to believe that hog producers, finding it necessary to euthanize thousands of hogs, choose to torture them to death over a period of hours by enclosing them with little ventilation simply because that was one of the least expensive and most efficient ways to kill them.
And to think we would not have known about these unbelievably despicable actions had it not been for the team of activists who recorded audio of pigs shrieking for hours as the temperature rose and killed them.
Thanks for printing the article, anyway.
