Man who tried to run over deputy is sought
Police apprehended one person and were looking for another who fled a Montgomery County traffic stop Wednesday near Interstate 45, an encounter that led to a Department of Public Safety trooper and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputy opening fire, authorities said.
Tyler Goodson, 28, and Rebecca Orange, 29, are said to have fled the traffic stop along the Interstate 45 frontage road around 1:45 p.m., according to police. Both had multiple warrants, DPS Sgt. Erik Burse said. Orange was taken into custody around 4:30 p.m.
A trooper was first to encounter the two, both of whom refused to identify themselves. The trooper requested a deputy’s help and the man then jumped back into a white Chevy pickup. The woman, however, ran away on foot, Burse said.
The driver, while in reverse, tried running over the deputy during the escape, Burse said. The trooper and deputy opened fire, he said. There were no known injuries from the shooting.
Authorities on the ground and helicopters above spent the afternoon searching for the suspects, focusing around a U-Haul Self Storage south of Robinson Road that was roped off.
The truck was later found outside Spring, near the 1700 block of City Plaza.
Goodson has been out on bond since December on five felony charges, including four counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle and felon in possession of a weapon.
The combined bond amount for those charges was $155,000. Court records show Goodson as living in Spring.
Orange, whose criminal history includes arrests in Harris and Montgomery counties, has been wanted since Jan. 31 on a theft charge.
Burse urged residents to call 911 if they see Goodson.
The Harris County Sheriff ’s Office and Texas Rangers were helping with the expanding
search and investigation.
