Support in Yemen, troop cuts halted
• President Joe Biden announced Thursday the United States was ending support for a grinding five-year Saudi-led military offensive in Yemen that has deepened suffering in the Arabian peninsula’s poorest country. While withdrawing support for Saudi offensive operations in Yemen, the Biden administration said it intends to help the kingdom boost its defenses against any further attacks from Yemen’s Houthis or outside adversaries.
• President Joe Biden is freezing plans to withdraw 12,000 American troops from Germany, administration officials said Thursday, and has ordered the Pentagon to conduct a review of how American forces are deployed around the world. The move would halt a Trump administration plan — which many national security experts had viewed as punitive — to bring some U.S. troops home from Germany and shift other units to Belgium and Italy.
