$750,000 grant to help students return to school
The coronavirus pandemic has forced many college students to stop taking classes as they lost jobs or took care of sick family members, among other things. With the help of a $750,000 grant, Lone Star College will be helping some of those students return to finish their degrees.
The college system recently announced the grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
Students can use the funds for tuition or fees for classes.
“Now more than ever, providing students the financial resources they need is one of the most important tools we have for restoring our economy,” said Stephen Head, the chancellor of LSC, in a news release. “I am pleased that Lone Star College is participating in this very important endeavor to train our local workforce.”
The board awarded $18.1 million to 40 different institutions of higher learning in Texas as part of the Texas Reskilling Support Fund Grant Program.
Other recipients of the first round of funding include Houston Community College ($750,000), the University of Houston Clear Lake ($112,500) and the University of HoustonDowntown ($750,000).
