Benintendi dealt to Kansas City

The Boston Red Sox traded Andrew Benintendi to the Kansas City Royals, parting with the final member of the outfield trio that helped the team win the 2018 World Series.

The Red Sox sent Benintendi along with an unspecifie­d amount of cash to the Royals for Franchy Cordero and two players to be named. Boston also received minor league righthande­r Josh Winckowski and a player to be named from the New York Mets. The Mets received outfielder Khalil Lee from the Royals.

• Shortstop Didi Gregorius and the Philadelph­ia Phillies finalized a $28 million, two-year contract.

• The St. Louis Cardinals acquired Johan Quezada, a 6-foot-9 righthande­r, from Philadelph­ia in exchange for cash considerat­ions.

The righthande­r made the leap from High-A Fort Myers in 2019 to the majors with the Marlins in late 2020, and in his three appearance­s for Miami averaged 97.5 mph on his fastball.

• Side-arming reliever Darren O’Day is guaranteed $3.15 million in his contract with the New York Yankees.

The 38-year-old righthande­r gets $1.75 million this year.

• Free agent former All-Star righthande­r Mike Foltynewic­z has signed a $2 million, one-year contract with the Rangers.

• The Chicago White Sox have hired former Texas Rangers and Cincinnati Reds manager Jerry Narron as a major league instructor on Tony La Russa’s staff.
