Rice comes up short in loss at Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Charles Bassey had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Taveion Hollingswo­rth and Josh Anderson contribute­d 17 points each as Western Kentucky built an early lead and held on to defeat Rice 77-71 in a Conference USA game on Friday night.

Travis Evee had a gamehigh 19 points and Quincy Olivari netted 18 for the Owls (12-9, 6-7 C-USA), who fell behind by 10 points early and never caught the Hilltopper­s (14-4, 7-2).

Ayo Dosunmu scored the last 10 points in regulation for Illinois and the first five in overtime, allowing the Fighting Illini to turn back host Nebraska’s upset bid.

Dosunmu, who had 22 of his 31 points after halftime, opened overtime with a layup and 3-pointer to send Illinois to its fifth consecutiv­e win. Kofi Cockburn added 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Illini (14-5, 10-3).

Nebraska (4-12, 0-9) lost its 26th straight Big Ten game.

UTSA 84 FLORIDA ATLANTIC 80

Jhivvan Jackson had 30 points as the Roadrunner­s edged the Owls at San Antonio.

Jacob Germany scored a career-high 26 points plus 12 rebounds for UTSA (11-9, 7-6 Conference USA).

Kenan Blackshear scored a career-high 20 points for the Owls (8-8, 3-4).

Christyn Williams had 19 points and the Huskies won at Washington for their sixth consecutiv­e victory.

Williams sparked a 16-2 run that put the Huskies (16-1, 13-0 Big East) ahead to stay.

Michaela Onyenwere had 25 points and seven rebounds in the Bruins’ victory at Salt Lake City.

NO. 10 ARIZONA 60 WASHINGTON ST. 51

Cate Reese had 17 points and six rebounds, and the Wildcats won at Tucson, Ariz.
