Halliburton Labs taps three for clean energy
Houston-based Halliburton Labs has selected three national companies to participate in its new clean energy program.
Enexor BioEnergy of Franklin, Tenn., OCO Inc. of Waltham, Mass., and Dallas’ Momentum Technologies are the first three companies to partner with Halliburton Labs, founded last July. Halliburton Labs, a subsidiary of Halliburton Co., provides access to facilities, operational expertise, practical mentorship and financing opportunities to help participants scale their business and advance towards cleaner, affordable energy.
Enexor BioEnergy converts organic, plastic or biomass waste into affordable, renewable power and thermal energy. Momentum’s lithium battery recycling technology recovers pure critical materials from spent lithium batteries and other valuable waste products. OCO Inc. transforms carbon dioxide, water and zero-carbon electricity into a hydrogen-rich platform chemical.
Hiring platform gets backing from local venture firm
Houston-based Mercury, an early-stage venture capital firm, co-led a $7.5 million Series A funding round in WizeHire, a hiring platform for small businesses. Other investors included Amplo and existing
backers Ruchit Shah and RigUp co-founder Sandeep Jain.
WizeHire intends to use the funds to hire more support staff and build a network of experts in its key industries of real estate, insurance, mortgage, legal and hospitality.
The company recorded $4.7 million in run rate in 2020, seeing its highest year-over-year growth despite the pandemic.
Cleantech fund plans a partnership with Canadian accelerator
Foresight Cleantech Accelerator Centre and Houston-based Eunike Ventures announced a collaborative partnership to further accelerate the growth of Canadian companies with promising cleantech solutions for the energy industry.
Houston-based Eunike is an energy venture builder with backing from large
industry players such as Equinor, Hess and TechnipFMC. The partnership establishes a bilateral technology bridge between the two countries, enabling shared technology sourcing, cross-fertilization of opportunities, learnings from industry peers, and increased foreign direct investment with the goal of accelerating and increasing adoption across the industry.
Buc-ee’s is ready to expand, open first store in Florida
Buc-ee’s, the Texasbased convenience store chain, will open its first Florida location this month.
A 52,600-square-foot travel center will open in St. Augustine on Feb. 22. The store will have 104 fueling positions and meals for travelers on the go.
