Sam Houston increases purses

Due to unanticipated growth in wagering handle, Sam Houston Race Park will immediately increase purses for each dirt-surface thoroughbred race by $7,000.

SHRP will boost by $2,000 the purse for grass-surface races.

The increases will not apply to stakes races, which offer the track's largest purses.

The adjustment will be implemented on Wednesday and will continue through the end of the racing season on April 3.
