Behr’s ‘Canyon Dusk’ an earthy hue for 2021
Behr Paint Co. is the latest to name its 2021 Color of the Year: the earthy, terra-cotta-tinged “Canyon Dusk.”
Behr color experts describe the hue as “tawny, raw and earthy” and as a metaphorical connection to Earth. It’s a color that works well on walls, furniture or even a front door.
“There is something so reassuring about dusk, the moment just after sunset, which brings the promise of a new day,” says Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr. “The illuminating, free-spirited ‘Canyon Dusk’ is a color that can be found in a variety of places, from an awe-inspiring desert landscape to the color of sun-baked clay. Wherever it is found, we share a collective need for these moments of comfort and inspiration in the days ahead.”
“Canyon Dusk” pairs well with Behr’s soft and light “Smoky White” or the dramatic black “Broadway,” both of which are also in Behr’s 2021 Color Trends palette.
Other 2021 Colors of the Year include Minwax’s “Vintage Blue” stain, Glidden’s “Aqua Fiesta” and Benjamin Moore’s “Aegean Teal.”
Sherwin-Williams went in a darker direction with “Urbane Bronze” as its Color of the Year, while Pantone picked a pair that range from bright to neutral with “Illuminating” (yellow) and “Ultimately Gray.”
