Man arrested in death of dog given injections
El Paso police detectives arrested a man accused of practicing veterinary medicine without a license following the death of a dog.
Rafael Padilla Marquez, 51, was arrested Friday by detectives with the Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit on two counts of nonlicensed vet and one count of cruelty/ torture of a nonlivestock animal.
Marquez is accused giving a series of eight injections to a 3-year-old German shepherd, who then died of renal failure in November, police said.
An investigation found that he also allegedly gave multiple injections to a poodle in another case, police said.
El Paso County Jail records show that Marquez was released from jail on a $15,000 bond on Friday, the same day that he was booked.
