Weather disrupts postseason events

Winter storms, iced roads and power outages in Texas are altering the high school basketball playoff schedule and caused a delay in the girls state swimming and diving championships.

The Dulles-Jersey Village girls basketball secondround game was postponed with details on a new date, time and location to be announced. Cypress Springs-Oak Ridge is another girls basketball playoff game postponed with new details to be announced later.

Clear Springs and Atascocita’s girls basketball second-round game is now at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Crosby High School.

Other postponements in the Houston area are expected for both boys and girls games. All playoff games involving Katy ISD basketball teams are expected to be postponed with the district being closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Much of the boys basketball playoff schedule is scheduled to tip off Friday. Only two games — Hightower-Waltrip at 6 p.m. at Hopson Fieldhouse and Pasadena-C.E. King at 7 p.m. at La Porte High School — are scheduled for Thursday so far.

The girls state swimming and diving meet scheduled for Friday and Saturday in San Antonio has been pushed back to Monday and Tuesday due to potentially dangerous travel conditions.
