Water outage shutters county warming center

-

The winter weather created some challenges for Montgomery County emergency officials who are now seeking new locations to serve as warming centers.

A water outage forced officials to shut down the Lone Star Convention Center as a warming center in Conroe on Tuesday night.

The center was providing shelter for residents seeking refuge from frigid temperatures.

“All of our citizens have returned home or have been relocated to another warming center nearby,” the emergency officials stated in the announcement.

The county has not shut down any other warming centers or shelters and is seeking more places to serve as warming centers, Meghan Arthur with Montgomery’s County emergency management team said Wednesday.

In the meantime, the county has opened a new daytime warming center in East County at the old YMCA at 16401 First Street in Splendora, Arthur said. Other warming stations available in Montgomery County include Under Over Fellowship at 600 Frazier St., in Conroe, the Church Project, and Melody Ranch in Montgomery.
