Rice wins series with HBU with 1-0 walk-off victory

Connor Walsh’s single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Rice a 1-0, series-clinching victory over Houston Baptist on Monday at Reckling Park.

Cade Edwards walked to lead off the ninth, then pinch hitter Johnny Hoyle was hit by a pitch. After a double steal, Walsh hit a deep fly ball to center for the walk-off single.

Reed Gallant (1-0) earned the win for the Owls (2-1), holding the Huskies hitless over the final five innings. Starter Roel Garcia limited HBU (1-2) to three hits in four innings.

Huskies starter Austin Spinney gave up four hits in six innings.
