Don’t hate Cruz for leaving

-

No need to stay in Texas

Regarding “As Texans freeze, a ticket to paradise,” (A10, Feb. 19): It is ridiculous to lambaste Sen. Ted Cruz for doing what the rest of us would have liked to do. Staying in Texas and being miserable like so many would be stupid if one has the resources to travel to a warmer climate. Plenty of people besides Cruz did the exact same thing. Did they disrespect their friends and neighbors by traveling to a warmer climate? Cruz would have accomplished nothing by staying in Texas. Just look at what Gov. Greg Abbott got done — nothing.

Don Petty, Grand Prairie Regarding “Paxton, wife traveled to Utah as Texas froze,” (A9, Feb. 23): So Ken Paxton went to Utah last week. Bully for him. Last I heard, Paxton is the attorney general of Texas. I didn’t know he’s also a plumber. Possibly an electrician, too? I never knew that!

If he is not either of those trades, I challenge you or anyone else to explain why he or Sen. Ted Cruz should have stayed in Texas during the freeze last week.

Could either of them have flipped a switch and summoned forth electrical power or warmth? Could either of them have healed broken water pipes?

Quit bashing Republican elected officials just for being Republican. It serves no purpose.
