Hearst is donating $1.2 million to multiple Texas relief organizations in the wake of last week’s crippling winter storm that left millions without electricity, heat or access to safe water, according to a news release.

The global media company has a major presence in the state through its newspapers, the Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News, as well as Hearst Health’s Homecare Homebase, headquartered in Dallas.

“While the storm itself has passed, the hardship remains, bringing additional economic and emotional strains to communities already hard hit by the pandemic,” the company said in the release.

The company will send the donation to relief organizations that include Bethany House of Laredo, Houston Harris County Winter Storm Relief, Houston Food Bank, North Texas Food Bank, American Red Cross of Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio Food Bank, Southeast Texas Food Bank and West Texas Food Bank.
