Firefighters rescue resident in kitchen blaze

-

Austin firefighters Thursday evening rescued a person from a house fire in South Austin.

The person, who was only identified as an adult, was taken to a hospital. Officials did not specify the severity of the person’s injuries but said they were evaluated by Austin-Travis County EMS medics. The person was able to walk and was conscious, according to fire officials.

Austin Fire Department Battalion Chief Calvin Poole said no other people were inside the house. He said most of the fire was contained to the kitchen.
