Here are some of the new films being released in theaters or for streaming, rental or purchase this week.

“Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell”

Emmett Malloy’s documentar­y about the late rapper Biggie Smalls, aka the Notorious B.I.G., is meant to show a different side to the performer than what is known in his public persona. Unrated. Begins streaming March 1 through Netflix.

“Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry”

This documentar­y follows the sudden rise of teenage singersong­writer Billie Eilish. Rated R. Opens Feb. 26 at AMC Gulf Pointe, Houston; AMC Willowbroo­k 24, Houston; AMC Deerbrook 24, Humble; AMC First Colony 24, Sugar Land; AMC Fountains 18, Stafford; begins streaming Feb. 26 on Apple TV+.

“Blithe Spirit”

This British romantic-comedy, based on the Noel Coward play, stars Dan Stevens and Isla Fisher in a story about a writer who holds a seance that summons his first wife — making for an awkward situation for his current wife. Rated PG-13. Playing at Landmark River Oaks, Houston; Grand 14, Conroe.

“Check”

Telugu-language drama from India that tells the story, set against the background of chess, of a prisoner fighting wrongful conviction.

“Crisis”

An big cast — Gary Oldman, Armie Hammer, Greg Kinnear, Evangeline Lilly and Michelle Rodriguez among them — is part of this thriller built on three intersecti­ng stories about opioid addiction.

“Endgame”

Andy Lau stars in this Hong Kong crime drama-comedy about a failed actor and an assassin who change places.

“The Girl on the Train”

Hindi-language remake of the 2016 American thriller of the same name.

Unrated. Begins streaming Feb. 26 on Netflix.

“God’s Compass”

Faith-based film in which a recently retired woman takes in a troubled teenager. Unrated. Screening 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at theaters throughout Houston. Go to fathomeven­ts.com for locations.

“Houston French Film Festival”

Ten new films from France are being shown in this annual spotlight.

“The Independen­ts”

A musical-comedy in which three struggling singer-songwriter­s team up in hopes of increasing their chances for success. Unrated. Begins streaming Feb. 26 through angelikaan­ywhere.com and watchlaemm­le.com.

“Lupe”

Indie film in which a transgende­r Cuban immigrant in New York City looks for a missing sister. Unrated. Airs 7 p.m. Feb. 26 on HBO Latino; begins streaming Feb. 26 on HBO Max.

“Moxie”

Amy Poehler directs this story, based on the novel by Houston’s Jennifer Mathieu, of a high school student who publishes a zine calling out her classmates’ toxic behavior.

Rated PG-13. Begins streaming March 3 on Netflix.

“My Zoe”

Actress Julie Delpy wrote, directed and co-stars in this drama about a divorced mom and her daughter dealing with an unexpected tragedy.

“Night of the Kings”

Philippe Lacôte’s striking film is set in a prison in Ivory Coast where a new inmate is forced to become a griot, telling a story to keep fellow prisoners entertaine­d.

“Safer at Home”

A thriller set two years into the pandemic when a wild online party makes the attendees’ homes more dangerous than anything going on outside. Unrated. Opens Feb. 26 at iPic Houston; begins streaming Feb. 26 on various platforms.

“Tom & Jerry”

Everyone’s favorite animated cat-and-mouse team makes it to the big screen thanks to director Tim Story (“Ride Along,” “Barbershop”).

“Truly Texas Mexican”

Documentar­y takes a look at the Native American roots of Texas Mexican cuisine. Unrated. Begins streaming March 1 through Amazon, Apple TV+ and Google TV; airs at 9 p.m. on March 21 on KUHT-TV (Channel 8).

“The United States vs. Billie Holiday”

Singer Andra Day portrays jazz vocalist Billie Holiday as she battled the government over the anti-lynching song “Strange Fruit.”

“The Vigil”

A horror-thriller about a man who finds himself battling a demon while he’s in the middle of an overnight watch of a deceased member of an Orthodox Jewish community. Unrated. Opens Feb. 26 at iPic Houston, Alamo Drafthouse LaCenterra, Katy; begins streaming Feb. 26 through various platforms.

“The War and Peace of Tim O’Brien”

Documentar­y looks at the life and career of writer Tim O’Brien, author of “The Things They Carried” and “If I Die in a Combat Zone, Box Me Up and Ship Me Home,” considered to be two of the best books about the Vietnam War.

Unrated. Begins streaming March 2 through various platforms.

“Wrong Turn”

Friends hiking the Appalachia­n Trail run into a strange group of people known as The Foundation.
