-

A mother was killed and her teenage son was seriously injured Thursday night in New Caney when a wheel smashed through their GMC pickup’s windshield as they drove home from basketball.

The left wheel of a 2004 Dodge 1500 pickup heading north flew off, crossed a concrete wall and flew into the windshield, instantly killing the woman around 7:15 p.m on Interstate 69 near Roman Forest Drive.

The GMC veered to the right lane and veered back before rear-ending a car with a man and three children inside. The truck slid against a wall, breaking off its right rear wheel and stopping, according to the Police Reporter.

The woman died at the scene around 8 p.m.. The 17-year-old, who had been asleep prior to the crash, was taken to Kingwood Hospital in serious condition.

The passenger car’s occupants were taken there, too, in stable condition, according to the Police Reporter.
