Shinyribs, Art Heist among our choices from our critics for this week.

- Cary Darling

1. Shinyribs

Shinyribs can be different things, from a guy with a ukulele to an eight-person Gulf Coast swamp soul band. Whether the lineup is one or several, the constant is Kevin Russell, who can find a deep rootsy groove in just about any song. His is not music for utensils, it’s greasy and good. So roll up your sleeves and dig in. He’s also as perfect a way for anybody in this region to get out for live music for the first time in ages.

2. ‘Art Heist’

Like all art and entertainment, live theater has struggled during the pandemic, resulting in a series of creative small-batch shows, livestreams and recorded performances. But “Art Heist” is designed to get fans outside of the house for an interactive but socially distant, family-friendly theater show crossed with a mystery. The event is part theater production, part downtown walking tour and part interactive crimesolving endeavor.

When: March 9-28

Where: George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida de las Americas

3. Jesse Jones

Politician, businessman, part owner of the Houston Chronicle, Jesse H. Jones looms large in Houston history, particularly as one dedicated to the city’s growth. His biographer, Steven Fenberg, will host an online program to discuss Jones’ life and accomplishments, which included a push for the creation of the Houston Ship Channel.

4. ‘Apollo 11: Quarantine’

If you can’t get enough of anything involving Apollo 11, CNN is airing this documentary about the experience of quarantine for the astronauts upon their return. This is one quarantine you might actually enjoy, and it’s only a half-hour.

Details: 8 p.m. March 6 on CNN Cary Darling

5. Olivia Cooke in ‘Pixie’

Young actress Olivia Cooke has had some solid roles in the past few years — Riz Ahmed’s girlfriend in “Sound of Metal” as well as parts in “Ready Player One,” “Bates Motel” and “Vanity Fair” — but she’s electric in the darkly comedic, Ireland-set gangster film “Pixie.” Along with her equally notable co-stars, Daryl McCormack and Ben Hardy, she’s definitely someone to watch.

Details: Opens March 5 at Studio Movie Grill Pearland and begins streaming on various platforms.
