1936-2021

Dr. Osman Ghazzaly passed away peacefully on Thursday April 8, 2021. He was born on the 13th of August 1936 in Cairo, Egypt.

Osman graduated from the University of Cairo, Egypt in 1958 with a B.S.C.E in Civil Engineerin­g. He received his Ph.D. in Civil/Geotechnic­al Engineerin­g from the University of Texas at Austin in 1965.

He began his long career as a faculty member of Civil Engineerin­g at University of Houston till his retirement in 2011 as a Full Professor. During that time he served as Associate Chairman, Director of Graduate and Undergradu­ate Studies, and Graduate and Undergradu­ate Advisor. He was also a part–time lecturer at Rice University, as well as Vice-President and Manager of the Middle East Division of McClelland Engineers, Houston, Texas (1974-1975).

He is survived by his wife

Ghazzaly, daughter Angie Gibson (husband Jeffrey), sister Layla Ghazzaly (Samir El-Ashram), step-daughters Farida Meguid Morsi and Sherifa Meguid Kehs (Stephen), grandchild­ren Mia Gibson, Sara Morsi, Hala Morsi, Omar Morsi, Tyler Kehs, Alya Morsi, Chloe Kehs, Zaid Morsi and Zayn Morsi.

He was buried at a private service on Friday, April 9th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributi­ons be made to the Dr. Osman Ghazzaly Endowed Faculty Achievemen­t Award in Civil and Environmen­tal Engineerin­g at the University of Houston.
