Japanese pastry chain expands to Houston’s north side

Beard Papa’s, a Japanese pastry chain selling bite-sized desserts and customizab­le cream puffs, will open in the Market at Springwood­s Village on April 17. The 1,200-square-foot store at 2174 Spring Stuebner Road in Spring is the first Beard Papa’s opening for franchisee May Hsiao, who was represente­d by Eric Lestin at Cushman & Wakefield. Lauren Heimann represente­d landlord Regency Centers. Houston-based Prominent Constructi­on Group served as the general contractor. The opening festivitie­s will include a dragon and lion dance show.

Founded in Osaka in 1999, Beard Papa’s has more than 400 stores worldwide. It sells cream puffs made with chocolate, green tea and other pastry shells combined with various fillings. It is the third Houston area location for Beard Papa’s, which joins Jinya Ramen Bar, Tarka Indian Kitchen, B. Good, MOD Pizza, Torchy’s Tacos, Zoe’s Kitchen, Cold Stone Creamery, Big Salad and Chick-Fil-A at the center.

OKA, a British interiors brand, opened its first U.S. location with a 9,000-square-foot store at 3461 W. Alabama south of the River Oaks neighborho­od. The space previously housed a Wisteria home furnishing­s store. The landlord is George M. Britton.

A Crunch Fitness franchisee signed a 30,240-square-foot lease for the first of eight locations planned for Fort Bend and Brazoria counties. Neal Thomson of NewQuest Properties represente­d the tenant in leasing the vacant Michael's store in First Colony Commons at 15385 Southwest Freeway in Sugar Land. Kristen Barker of Wulfe & Co. represente­d the Dallas-based landlord, TPP 306 First Colony LLC. Opening is planned in October.

Uniform Specialist­s of Katy

renewed at Katy Freeway Plaza, 22121 Katy Freeway. Joaquin Orozco and Eric Broussard of Resolut RE represente­d the landlord.

Jersey Mike’s Subs opened at 9811 W. Broadway in Pearland. The location is operated by franchise owners Willie and Bebe Mora.

Round Top Collection ,a store specializi­ng in home furnishing­s, holiday décor and customizab­le home accents and decorative items, leased 2,100 square feet in the Baybrook Village Shopping Center, at 1531 W.

Bay Area Blvd., Webster. Debbie Adams of Edge Realty Partners represente­d the tenant. Elise Weatherall represente­d the landlord, Wulfe & Co.

Port of Peri Peri, a Portugese restaurant, leased 2,400 square feet at NewQuest's Market Square at Eldridge center at the southwest corner of Westheimer Road at Eldridge Parkway. Tan Le of Address Commercial Real Estate represente­d the tenant.

Toasted Yolk Cafe, a Houstonbas­ed breakfast and lunch restaurant founded by Chris Milton and Matthew DeMott, will expand outside of Texas by bringing in franchisee­s to establish the brand in Memphis, Tenn., and Dothan, Ala. It is also looking to expand in south Florida. The expansion comes on the heels of an opening in League City. The next cafe will open in Bellaire Town Center in June.
