Astros (6-3) update: First baseman Yuli Gurriel is off to a team-best .355 start and, with nine walks, boasts a .500 on-base percentage. He’s slugging .516. … The rest of the Astros’ infield also is hitting at least .300 with an OPS of at least .900. Jose Altuve is at .351 and .918; Carlos Correa is at .333 and .983; Alex Bregman is at .310 and .907. … Bregman, who missed Saturday’s game with what manager Dusty Baker termed “sore legs,” is expected back for the series opener. … Odorizzi, who signed a free-agent deal March 8, will make his Houston debut after beginning the season at the team’s alternate training site. Tigers (3-6) update: In his first year at the Detroit helm, manager A.J. Hinch has a much different team than his last one with the Astros, who won the American League pennant in his final season in Houston. The Tigers’ .268 on-base percentage ranks 29th in the majors, and their .197 batting average is 28th. … Catcher Wilson Ramos has been a bright spot. In seven games, he’s slashing .273/ .360/.864 with four home runs. … Mize, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 draft out of Auburn, will be facing the Astros for the first time. After eight career starts, he is still looking for his first victory. … Miguel Cabrera, who is pursuing his 3,000th career hit and 500th career home run this season (he has 2,869 and 488, respective­ly) was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a left biceps strain that was affecting his swing.
