ALICE RUTH (MAGNESS) FINGLEMAN

1939-2021

-

Alice Ruth Magness Fingleman, 81, made her way to heaven on April 9th, 2021. She had her daughters, Diane Bailey and Susan Syamken with her in prayers, stories and sharing so much love for one another…it was a truly peaceful time.

Alice was born in Houston, Texas on November 11, 1939. She and her family grew up in the Heights where she attended Reagan High School. Her parents, Clifford Morgan Magness and Sarah (Sallie) Frances Williamson Magness had 6 children and Alice was the youngest . She had 2 brothers, Clifford “Sonny” Magness, Jr. and Donald Magness. 3 sisters, Virginia “Aunt Gin”, Sallie Smith and Francis Tolly.

Alice had a wonderful sense about her – many knew her as a character, always bringing a laugh or two to anyone she met. When starting to get out in the work force, Alice first began working at Weingarten’s Grocery store, moved into the banking industry as a teller and then met her work ‘family’, Harrison Interests, where she spent serving as Asst. Treasurer along with many roles for 50 years!! She loved the Harrison family and all of her work colleagues.

Growing up, Alice and her husband, David L. Fingleman, enjoyed spending time with their 3 daughters, Susan Syamken, Diane Bailey and Jennifer Fingleman. They spent many Summer vacations on the road to Galveston where they loved sitting on the beach with homemade tuna fish sandwiches, Cheetos and drinks enjoying the ocean breeze. There were many Summer vacation memories that Alice and David took, heading to California, Florida and New Orleans to name a few just to spend time with their girls making great memories.

Alice was an avid crossword puzzle solver and always enjoyed with her coffee each morning. Her penmanship was perfection – always so precise. David and Alice spent many nights going to their favorite restaurants for dinner all over town. The best meal of the day for Alice was her breakfast – scrambled eggs, bacon and toast with coffee. If Alice and David were not out to dinner you would probably find them eating hot dogs at an Astros game!! They loved doing this and would go as often as possible.

Alice and David finally became grandparents with the arrival their 1st granddaughter, Carsen Durham. Alice ‘aka’ Granny was blessed with 4 grandchildren. 1 grandson, David Fingleman, and 3 granddaughters, Carsen Durham, Haley Syamken and Cassidy Syamken. They all loved her so very much and loved spending time laughing together. She was a true character and the grandkids could not wait for their visit with Granny just so they could hear her stories and bring a smile to their faces.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford, Morgan Magness and Sarah Frances (Sallie) Williamnson Magness, her daughter, Jennifer Fingleman and husband, David L. Fingleman.

She is survived by her daughters: Susan (Ron) Syamken and Diane (Stacy) Bailey. Grandchildren: Carsen Durham, Haley Syamken, Cassidy Syamken and David Fingleman.

Thanks and appreciation to all family and friends for your support, calls, food and prayers. We are grateful for the care provided to Alice over the years by her Dr. Orlander and Brookdale communities as well as Harrison Interests work family – your love and continued long time support of Alice is truly amazing!!
