Arrest is made in museum heist, boat getaway

-

A man was arrested this week after allegedly burglarizing a River Oaks museum and leading police on a chase through Buffalo Bayou on a getaway boat, officials said.

Lewis Yates Robertson, 33, was charged Tuesday with burglary of a building. He has since posted his $1,000 bond.

Police said two intruders were found around 7:30 p.m. March 16 in the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, a museum run by the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Responding officers spotted them fleeing the building and jumping into a motor boat waiting on the bayou.

They eventually escaped through a storm drain tunnel.

The museum previously said nothing appeared to have been taken.

The 14-acre property — and former home of late philanthropist Ima Hogg — houses a collection of decorative art, paintings and furniture.

There are more than 2,500 objects displayed onsite throughout the 28 rooms and galleries including furniture, paintings, sculpture, prints, ceramics, glass, metals and textiles.
