Astros (6-6) update: The Astros are looking to end a five-game losing streak while Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Yordan Alvarez, Martin Maldonado and Robel Garcia remain out indefinite­ly because of COVID-19 health and safety protocals. … First baseman Yuli Gurriel leads the American League with a .547 on-base percentage. He already has three three-hit games after having none in 2020. … Astros starters have a cumulative 4.89 ERA, which ranks 20th in the majors. The bullpen is eighth with a 3.60 ERA. …Closer Ryan Pressly is unscored upon in five innings this year but has yet to receive a save opportunit­y.

Mariners (8-5) update: Count Seattle as perhaps baseball’s biggest surprise so far. A doublehead­er sweep at Baltimore on Thursday put the Mariners a half-game up on the Angels atop the American League West. … Right fielder Mitch Haniger is off to a robust start, hitting .321 and slugging .623 with four homers, four doubles, 10 runs and 10 RBIs. He went deep in both games of Thursday’s sweep. … The M’s appear to have found a closer in Kendall Graveman, who has two saves in his first five appearance­s with a 0.00 ERA and 0.50 WHIP. Opponents are batting .056 against him. … Center fielder Kyle Lewis has yet to play this season and won’t quite be ready for this series. Seattle is targeting a Monday return for the defending AL Rookie of the Year.
