COVID tracing postpones UH baseball series

- Joseph Duarte

A four-game series between the University of Houston and East Carolin has been postponed due to COVID-19 contact tracing within the Cougars’ baseball program.

The series against No. 5 ECU was set to begin with a doubleheader Friday at UH’s Schroeder Park.

UH (13-18) has lost seven straight games, to fall into a tie for last place in the American Athletic Conference, and 13 of the last 16 overall. In last weekend’s four-game sweep to Wichita State, the Cougars were outscored 40-6 and committed 13 errors.

Coach Todd Whitting said a couple of players tested positive and the team went through contact tracing a week before the start of the season.

UH does not release the number of COVID-19 cases within the athletic department.

The Cougars next play South Florida on April 23-25 at Schroeder Park.
