A’s rally for 11th straight victory

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics extended their winning streak to 11, rallying from a two-run deficit to beat the Twins 13-12 Wednesday when Luis Arraez threw away Ramon Laureano’s grounder for Minnesota’s second error of the 10th inning.

Nelson Cruz had two home runs and four RBIs for the Twins, and Byron Buxton hit a two-run homer against Lou Trivino for a 12-10 lead in the 10th.

Minnesota’s Josh Donaldson had four hits, including a home run, and is hitting .556 (10 for 28) since coming off the injured list. Matt Olson homered twice and had three RBIs for the A’s.

NATIONALS 1, CARDINALS 0: Max Scherzer struck out nine in six scoreless innings and Alex Avila drove in the game’s lone run with one of his two doubles, helping host Washington edge St. Louis.

RANGERS 7, ANGELS 4: Adolis Garcia hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the eighth inning as Texas won at Los Angeles. Nate Lowe also homered immediatel­y after Garcia’s drive for the Rangers.

BRAVES 4, YANKEES 1: Ian Anderson took a shutout into the seventh inning, Austin Riley homered and visiting Atlanta scraped by with just four hits to beat punchless New York. At 6-11, the Yankees are off to their worst start since 1991.

CUBS 16, METS 4: Javier Baez hit a grand slam and Chicago took advantage of a season-high four errors by New York in a romp on a chilly night at Wrigley Field. David Bote drove in four runs and Matt Duffy added three RBIs for the Cubs.

BLUE JAYS 6, RED SOX 3: Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had two hits and one RBI apiece and Toronto won at Boston.

ROYALS 9, RAYS 8: Salvador Perez’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth inning capped a tworun rally as Kansas won at home. Carlos Santana hit a two-run homer for the Royals.

BREWERS 4, PADRES 2: Jace Peterson hit a two-run homer and Omar Narvaez drove in two runs as Milwaukee won at San Diego to complete a three-game sweep.

PHILLIES 6, GIANTS 5: Andrew Knapp hit the winning single in the ninth inning, Bryce Harper hit a tying solo homer in the seventh and host Philadelph­ia edged San Francisco.

MARLINS 3, ORIOLES 0: Trevor Rogers pitched a career-high seven innings without allowing a runner past second base, and host Miami earned a split of the twogame series. Rogers (2-1) allowed four hits and one walk while striking out eight, and lowered his ERA to 1.64.

PIRATES, TIGERS SPLIT: Tyler Anderson pitched five solid innings, and Pittsburgh took the first game of a doublehead­er at Detroit 3-2.

Detroit rallied for a 5-2 win in the second game behind Jonathan Schoop’s go-ahead home run in a three-run fifth inning.

DIAMONDBAC­KS TAKE TWO FROM REDS: Josh Van Meter hit a tying three-run homer in the ninth inning against his former team, and Arizona beat host Cincinnati 8-5 in 10 innings for their second win of the day.

In the conclusion of Tuesday’s night’s suspended game, Arizona held on for a 5-4 victory.
