BERNICE FRIEDLANDER

1921-2021

-

Bernice Marie Friedlander was born July 31, 1921, in Houston Texas. The youngest daughter of Dora and Louis Schoenmann. She was educated in Houston schools, attended San Jacinto High School and The University of Texas and graduated from The University of Houston.

While attending UT she met the love of her life, Silas Friedlander Jr. They meant the world to each other. They were inseparable for 63 wonderful years until Silas passed away. She was the matriarch of the family, she was the most loving, caring, charitable person anyone could ever meet. She was beautiful inside and out, sweet, smart, kind, creative, organized and many other adjectives too numerous to list. Her hobby was growing orchids and Bernice always felt her glass was more than half full. Not only was she the mother of daughters Nancy Ducoff and Susan Brochstein, but also her extended family. She was a blessing to all who knew her and will be greatly missed and will be forever in our hearts.

She is survived by Nancy and Rusty Ducoff, Susan Brochstein, grandchildren, Elizabeth and Nick Ducoff, Kevin Ducoff, Ashley and Josh Rutberg, Tyler and Lindsay Brochstein, great grandchildren Charlie Ducoff, Penny Ducoff, Alexander Brochstein, William Brochstein, Savannah Block, Hunter Block and Jake Rutberg and many loving relatives.

We cannot thank her loving caretakers enough – Lolita, Letty, Marisol, Andrea, Manuela, Dr. Matus, Dr. Niravath, and a special thank you to Dr. Kim Bloom who went above and beyond for her.

All who knew Bernice loved her, respected her, admired her and knew that she knew no enemies. She set standards that were admirable and we will all be better people for knowing her.

Family will be having a private graveside with a memorial service to follow, at Congregation Beth Israel 5600 N. Braeswood Blvd. Houston, TX. 77096 at 12:00pm on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
