Trapped resident injured in blaze at group home
A woman was injured early Wednesday in a fire at a group home in southwest Houston, officials said.
Officials responded shortly before 4 a.m. to Concho Street in the Alief area where they found heavy fire and smoke inside a home, said Steve Dunbar of the Houston Fire Department District 83.
Firefighters made a fast attack on the flames. A woman in her 30s was trapped in the back corner of the house, Dunbar said. Firefighters rescued her, and paramedics transported her to a hospital in critical condition.
The other eight or nine residents were able to get out of the home with no injuries, Dunbar said.
Residents told authorities they heard two explosions, Dunbar said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
