ANSWER: Bid one diamond. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce your diamonds and suggest a lead to partner. You can afford to open light in third chair since partner will not have the values to go wild. You might have to pass a one-spade response, but that is the worstcase scenario. It is more likely that West will take you off the hook. A two-diamond preempt would also be an option.
