He has hit safely in 12 of his 14 starts. … Yuli Gurriel and Michael Brantley are neck-and-neck in the American League batting race. Gurriel leads the league at .3161, with Brantley second at .3160. … With 2,798 career strikeouts, Greinke needs six to pass Cy Young, who is 23rd on the all-time list.

Rangers (44-83) update: Texas is an MLB-worst 9-28 (.243) since the All-Star break. … The Rangers were a .500 team (18-18) after winning May 9 but have gone 26-65 (.286) since. … On Thursday night, third baseman Ryan Dorow became the club-record 24th rookie to play for Texas this season. The Rangers used 23 rookies in 2014 and 2019. … 28-year-old rookie Andy Ibanez extended his hitting streak to 10 games Thursday and is batting .500 (19-for-38) in that span. His six consecutiv­e multi-hit games match this season’s major league high, previously accomplish­ed by Brantley, Jed Lowrie and Fernando Tatis Jr. … Isiah Kiner-Falefa is hitting .306 (30 for 98) over 22 games in August, a substantia­l improvemen­t over his .188 (16 for 85) July. … On Wednesday, Nathaniel Lowe became the sixth Ranger to log a hit in eight consecutiv­e at-bats, joining Frank Catalanott­o (10 in 2000), Rico Carty (1973), Oddibe McDowell (1985), Ivan Rodriguez (1993) and Ian Kinsler (2009).
