1. ‘Bésame Mucho’

Venezuelan singer Inés María Bravo has assembled a program with arranger William Sigismondi that honors the role of women in the developmen­t of the bolero in Latin American music. They devised “Bésame Mucho,” a farreachin­g program that includes songs by women from the Americas and the Caribbean.

2. Rita Dove

Rita Dove has published 11 collection­s of poetry and along the way earned a Pulitzer Prize and been named U.S. Poet Laureate, the first African American given that designatio­n. She just published her latest collection, “Playlist for the Apocalypse.” Dove will open Inprint Houston’s Margarett Root

Brown series, reading from her latest work, before taking part in a discussion with Jericho Brown, a fellow poet and Pulitzer winner, who earned a Ph.D. from and taught at University of Houston.

3. ‘Chromointe­rferent Environmen­t’

Fans of Carlos Cruz-Diez are in luck — the late artist’s chromatic projection, “Chromointe­rferent Environmen­t,” lands at Sicardi Ayers Bacino next week. His similarly immersive environmen­ts previously appeared as a retrospect­ive at Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and a site-specific installati­on at the Buffalo Bayou Cistern. Pencil in the latest exhibition’s opening reception on Sept. 2, though Cruz-Diez’s work will be displayed through October.

4. ‘In Place of an Index’

Lone Star State talent is at the heart of “In Place of an Index,” an upcoming exhibition featuring the photograph­ic works of 12 artists currently living in or native to Texas. The title riffs on Arielle Azoulay’s theory of an alternativ­e index of time, space and experience. The exhibition, as presented by FotoFest in conjunctio­n with the 2021 Texas Biennial, “A New Landscape, A Possible Horizon,” offers curator tours, readings, artist talks and more at Silver Street Studios.
