Boys

Bryce Fucik, Jr., Strake Jesuit

Notable:

Fucik put up some eye-popping numbers during a 55-28 victory over Dekaney on Friday. He completed 25 of 36 passes for 427 yards and accounted for eight total touchdowns. Seven of those came through the air on plays of 5, 48, 11, 4, 21, 16 and 14 yards.

What coach Donovan Fikac said: “Bryce has put in a lot of hard work to learn a new offense since the spring. His performanc­e last Friday night showed his ability to lead our team. He was poised, focused and under control all night. He brings a special dynamic to our offense, and he knows how to make everyone around him better through his actions.”

Other nominees

Jacob Brown, Sr., Paetow:

Brown rushed for 294 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries during the Panthers’ 30-14 victory over Foster on Friday. He scored on runs of 2, 72, 2 and 89 yards.

D.J. Lagway, Soph., Willis: Lagway completed 13 of 20 passes for 184

yards and six touchdowns

in a 50-27 home victory over Bellaire on Friday night. His scores went for 31, 20, 10, 14, 12 and 40 yards.

Ruben Rojas Betanzos, Sr., Seven Lakes: Betanzos took first place at the College Park Invitation­al on Saturday, running the 5,000-meter race in 15 minutes, 27.44 seconds. Seven Lakes finished third as a team.

Girls

Cindy Tchouangwa, Jr., Tompkins

Notable:

Tchouangwa had two strong performanc­es last week for the Falcons. The junior outside hitter posted 27 kills during a five-set nondistric­t victory over George Ranch. She had 25 kills as Tompkins opened District 19-6A action with a four-set win over Cinco Ranch.

What coach Allison Merrell said: “Cindy is obviously really talented and can terminate the ball, but she brings so much more to our team. She is coachable, team-oriented and keeps us all relaxed and in the moment. She can kick into another gear when needed. I am so proud of her.”

Maddie Heisner, Sr., Atascocita: Heisner was a key contributo­r in a pair of victories for the Eagles last week. During a four-set non-district matchup against Clear Lake last Tuesday, the senior setter finished with 41 assists. She then collected 22 assists during a sweep of Humble in Atascocita’s District 21-6A opener on Friday.

Jetzibe Trevino, Jr., Huffman-Hargrave: Trevino took first place at the Run the Dog Pound Invitation­al at Magnolia on Saturday, winning the 5,000-meter race with a time of 18 minutes, 13.59 seconds.

Madison Peters, Soph., Pearland: Peters took first place at the College Park Invitation­al on Saturday, winning the 5,000-meter race with a time of 17 minutes, 52.38 seconds.
