Astros (91-65) update: Houston’s magic number for clinching its fourth American League West title in five years remained at two after Seattle’s 13-4 home victory Monday night against Oakland. … Jose Altuve has belted seven leadoff homers this season, second in the AL to Cedric Mullins’ eight for the Orioles, but hasn’t hit one since July 20. … Kyle Tucker’s .551 slugging percentage ranks third in the AL behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (.601) and Shohei Ohtani (.595). … Though he has converted all three save chances this month, closer Ryan Pressly is 0-2 with a 5.63 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in September.

Rays (97-59) update: With its next victory, Tampa Bay would secure home field throughout the AL playoffs. … The Rays, who are 1-2 against the Astros this season, are 38 games over .500 for the first time in their history. Their victory total matches the club record set by the 2008 team that won the AL pennant. … Wander Franco has reached base in 41 consecutiv­e games, two shy of the major league record for a player under 21 set by Frank Robinson with the 1956 Reds. … With 448 home runs, Nelson Cruz needs one to tie Jeff Bagwell and Vladimir Guerrero for 40th place all-time. But in his last 31 at-bats, Cruz has only four hits, all singles. … The Rays have 10 players with at least 10 home runs, matching the Giants for the major league high. … An MLB-record 14 pitchers have earned saves for the Rays this year.
