Howard nets 32 as Kentucky women stun No. 6 LSU

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Rhyne Howard scored 32 points, and Kentucky never trailed beating No. 6 LSU 78-63 Friday night in the Southeaste­rn Conference women’s tournament quarterfin­als.

Kentucky (17-11) won its eighth straight to reach the semifinals for the second time in three seasons and 17th overall. The Wildcats will play either No. 18 Tennessee or Alabama in the semifinals Saturday.

Dre’Una Edwards scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Kentucky.

LSU (25-5) saw its eightgame winning streak snapped.

The Tigers will have to wait for the NCAA Tournament bracket announceme­nt after Kentucky spoiled coach Kim Mulkey’s SEC Tournament debut.

“They just came out on fire,” Mulkey said. “I watched them play the previous games, and they have all their parts back.”

Mulkey drew a technical with 1:36 left. She came onto the court yelling at an official as players went back up-court, insisting Jazmine Massengill fouled LSU guard Khayla Pointer on a 3-pointer.

In an earlier games, Aliyah Boston notched her 22nd consecutiv­e doubledoub­le with 17 points and 14 rebounds as top-ranked South Carolina beat Arkansas 76-54.

The Gamecocks (28-1) have won 16 straight and will play fourth-seeded Mississipp­i in Saturday’s semifinal. …

Two-time All-SEC center Shakira Austin scored 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Mississipp­i held off No. 23 Florida 70-60. …

Rae Burrell matched her season-high scoring 21 points, and the 18th-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols never trailed in routing Alabama 74-59.

The third-seeded Lady Vols (23-7) reached their second straight semifinal and 34th in program history. They will play Kentucky in the semifinals Saturday.

BIG TEN QUARTERFIN­ALS

Jacy Sheldon scored 19 points, Taylor Mikesell added 18 points with four 3-pointers and No. 13 Ohio State closed on a 10-0 run to beat Michigan State 74-58 at Indianapol­is.

Top-seeded Ohio State (23-5) advances to semifinals for the seventh time in nine seasons under coach Kevin McGuff. The Buckeyes will face No. 5 seed Indiana on Saturday. …

Allison Weidner and Sam Haiby each scored 16 points to lead Nebraska to a 76-73 victory over No. 10 Michigan. Sixth-seeded Nebraska (24-7) will play No. 12 Iowa in the Saturday’s semifinals. …

Mackenzie Holmes scored 17 points, Grace Berger scored 16 and No. 14 Indiana turned back No. 11 Maryland 62-51. …

Monika Czinano scored 21 points, Caitlin Clark had a double-double and No. 12 Iowa pulled away from Northweste­rn for a 72-59 win.

PAC 12 SEMIFINALS

Haley Jones scored a game-high 17 points and No. 2 Stanford beat Colorado 71-45 at Las Vegas.

ACC QUARTERFIN­ALS

Destiny Harden hit a turnaround midrange jumper at the horn as Miami scored the game’s final 17 points to stun No. 4 Louisville 61-59 at Greensboro, N.C.

The second-seeded Cardinals led 59-44 with 5:44 left, only to see the seventh-seeded Hurricanes stage a frantic rally. Harden scored the game’s last 15 points for Miami (19-11) on the way to 27 points. …

Olivia Miles had 17 points and 13 assists, Maddy Westbeld also had 17 points and No. 20 Notre Dame defeated No. 25 Georgia Tech 71-53. …

Jakia Brown-Turner scored nine of her 15 points during third-ranked North Carolina State’s dominating third-quarter performanc­e, helping the Wolfpack beat Florida State 84-54.

SUN BELT QUARTERFIN­ALS

Third-seeded Louisiana opened up to a 12-0 advantage and cruised to a 71-46 win against sixthseede­d Texas State in at the Pensacola Bay Center.

Louisiana (18-6) advances to the semifinals opposite Texas-Arlington, which beat Georgia Southern 85-76.

Men MISSOURI VALLEY QUARTERFIN­ALS

AJ Green had 17 points as Northern Iowa beat Illinois State 78-65 at St. Louis.

Northern Iowa will face Loyola Chicago in the semifinals.

Lucas Williamso scored 13 points as Loyola Chicago topped Bradley 66-50.

OHIO VALLEY SEMIFINALS

KJ Williams had 29 points and 10 rebounds and Tevin Brown scored 26 points as No. 19 and topseeded Murray State beat Southeast Missouri State 88-74 at Evansville, Ind., to advance to the championsh­ip.

WEST COAST SECOND ROUND

Alex Barcello had 22 points as BYU rolled past Loyola Marymount 85-60 at Paradise, Nev.

The Cougars advance to face fourth-seeded San Francisco Saturday in a quarterfin­al match-up.
