Rahm ends streak with Mexico win

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico — Jon Rahm pulled out of a four-way tie with a 12-foot birdie putt on the 14th hole and then held on with pars for a 2-under 69 and a one-shot victory Sunday in the Mexico Open.

Rahm won for the first time since the U.S. Open last summer at Torrey Pines.

Rahm has 14 victories worldwide but had gone 17 starts without winning, matching the longest streak in is career. The victory moves him a little closer to Scottie Scheffler in his bid to reclaim the No. 1 ranking.

Tony Finau and Brandon Wu each closed with a 63, while Kurt Kitayama birdied the final hole for a 68. They tied for second.

Alex takes Palos Verdes: Marina Alex won the Palos Verdes Championsh­ip for her second LPGA Tour title, breaking a tie with a two-putt birdie on the par-5 16th for a one-stroke victory over Jin Young Ko.

Arnaus captures Catalunya: Home favorite Adri Arnaus won a playoff to beat Oliver Bekker at the Catalunya Championsh­ip in Girona, Spain.

TENNIS Osaka, Muguruza exit Madrid Open

Naomi Osaka and Garbine Muguruza were among leading players to be knocked out of the Madrid Open on Sunday.

Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo beat Osaka 6-3, 6-1 in the second round. Sorribes Tormo next faces Daria Kasatkina after she fought back to upset fourth-seeded Maria Sakkari 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina brushed aside reigning WTA Finals champion Muguruza 6-3, 6-0.
