Ridge Point’s Jordan among best in state

With the 2022 high school volleyball season officially getting underway Aug. 8, here is a look at some of the top local players with the Chronicle’s All-Greater Houston preseason team.

All-Greater Houston preseason team

L — Alice Volpe, Soph., Bridgeland Vople was a key contributo­r to the Bears’ first state tournament team last year, collecting 820 digs (5.6 per set) and serving up 44 aces. She committed just 24 reception errors over 147 sets played.

L — Lily Hopkins, Sr., Tomball (Alabama) Hopkins helped the Cougars to the playoffs and a 27-13 record last season. She finished her junior campaign with 603 digs (4.7 per set) and 141 assists. She had just 30 reception errors in 127 sets.

L — Molly Tuozzo, Sr., The Woodlands (Kentucky) Tuozzo played only 49 sets last year due to a midseason injury, but the Kentucky commit is poised for a strong senior campaign. She averaged 5.3 digs per set when on the court last fall.

S — Claire Dewine, Jr., The Woodlands (Colgate) Dewine, the reigning All-Montgomery County Offensive MVP, is a versatile player for coach Terri Wade. She had 687 assists, 432 kills and 426 digs for the regional finalists last season. S — Kinslee Smith, Jr.,

Klein One of the top-ranked setters in the state for the 2024 class, Smith earned All-Greater Houston first team honors after collecting 1,359 assists (10.3 per set) during a standout sophomore season. S — Morgen Durgens, Jr., Clear Springs Durgens is another talented setter from the 2024 class and will orchestrat­e the Chargers’ offense once again. She finished with 800 assists (6.3 per set) and 364 digs over 126 sets played last year. OH — Ariana Brown, Sr., Conroe (Louisiana-Monroe)

After three seasons at Klein, Brown has the special opportunit­y to play for her mother, Charvette Brown, at Conroe as a senior. She was an All-Greater Houston second-team selection last year.

OH — Sydney Jordan, Sr., Ridge Point (Colorado) Jordan is one of the top-ranked players in the state for the 2023 class, and for good reason. She led a state-bound Ridge Point team in kills last season with 396 and added 490 digs and 55 blocks. OH — Devyn Lewis, Sr.,

Manvel Lewis helped Manvel reach new heights last year with its first state tournament appearance. She returns to the fold as one of the team leaders after collecting 480 kills and 447 digs as a junior.

OH — Bianna Muoneke, Sr., Cypress Ranch (Texas A&M) Muoneke is coming off an outstandin­g junior season in which she recorded 673 kills with a .417 hitting percentage. She was an All-Greater Houston first team selection last year.

OH — Cindy Tchouangwa, Jr., Tompkins (Rice) Tchouangwa returns as one of the top hitters in the city after collecting 430 kills over 109 sets last season. She will be aiming to lead Tompkins to a second straight District 19-6A title.

MB — Arissa Smith, Sr., Ridge Point (Mississipp­i State) Smith showed plenty of talent last year and is poised to take on a greater role with the graduation of All-American middle blocker Alexis Roberson. Smith had 226 kills and 111 blocks as a junior.

MB — Mikala Sampson, Sr., Klein (North Carolina A&T) Sampson will provide plenty of height and athleticis­m at the net for the Bearkats once again. She finished last season with 284 kills and 48 blocks for the undefeated District 15-6A champions.

OH— Piper Stephenson, Sr., St. Agnes OH— Jordan Booth, Sr., The Woodlands Christian

OH— Christina Vigil, Sr., Northland Christian OH— Alexis Bodunrin, Sr., Frassati Catholic (St. Thomas) OH— NiMya Maruska, Sr., St. Agnes

MB— Ava Harrington, Sr., Episcopal (Princeton) MB— Bayleigh Minor, Soph., Fort Bend Christian
